Licensed Shared Access

Not all of the spectrum that has been identified globally for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT – The ITU’s official name for mobile communication services) is free from existing uses. In some cases, it is a prerequisite that the existing use is ended before a new use can begin, but in others the spectrum may be held by organisations that could be in a position to allow IMT usage but have no specific regulatory method of doing so. Licensed Shared Access (LSA) has been proposed as a method to permit these users to release some of their spectrum for other services.
