ABSTRACT

Ricardo Melchior carried out his studies of industrial engineering

in the University of Navarra, Spain, and later moved to Germany

for a period of three years motivated by a scholarship awarded by

the German government to study financial engineering at Aachen

University (RWTH), where he also started his PhD in industrial

engineering. During this period, Mr. Melchior came into contact with

researchers and scientists who studied the use of renewable energy

as an alternative to fossil fuels as a result of the fourth Arab-Israeli

war of 1973, also known as the Yom Kippur War, which caused an

energy crisis that quadrupled oil prices.
