ABSTRACT
The Barefoot College was established over 38 years ago in the
deserts of Rajasthan in India. The objective was to use a powerful
combination of the “technology of the people” with traditional
knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life of the very poor,
the impoverished, the economically and socially marginalised and
the physically challenged living on less than $1 /day. The goal was to
empower the poor with technology skills and knowledge to enable
them to stand on their own two feet.
