ABSTRACT

Complications associated with surgical procedures involving the thyroid and parathyroid glands are uncommon, but can cause substantial morbidity when they do occur. This chapter will discuss the specific problems that may occur during operations on these important endocrine glands and some methods that can reduce the risk of postoperative hematoma, laryngeal nerve palsy, hypocalcemia, seroma, wound infection, and failure of parathyroidectomy.
