The world has suddenly woken up to the realization that terminologies concerning disturbances of menstrual bleeding are used in very different ways in different countries and different cultures. 1,2 These variations have impact on the words which are used, the definitions of those words, and the classifications of symptoms and underlying causes. They have the potential to cause confusion concerning the interpretation of data from clinical trials and in the interpretation of scientific studies of the mechanisms of different types of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB).
