ABSTRACT

Malignancies of the lower gastrointestinal tract compose a large portion of the practice of colorectal surgery [1]. This chapter describes the anatomy, pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment of common malignant and premalignant lesions. For ease of understanding, the lesions have been grouped by anatomical location.

COLON AND RECTUM Anatomy The general anatomy of the colon and rectum were discussed in Chapter 1. Important oncological aspects include the segmental blood supply to the colon and rectum and differentiating between the colon and rectum.
