ABSTRACT

Peroxisomal and mitochondrial disorders are characterized by an involvement in the -oxidation of fatty acids and the oxidation of phytanic acid. It has been estimated that these disorders are responsible for approximately a third of human metabolic diseases and that mitochondrial disorders are about twice as common as peroxisomal disorders.
