ABSTRACT

It is unfortunate that the term chemistry has negative implications. Some believe that the use and abuse of chemistry bears much of the responsibility of environmental deterioration. We differ and do not believe that we have to suffer from competition between science and the environment, but we believe that we must learn to use science, chemistry in particular, to solve environmental problems. We shall deal with one of these global problems, that of sick soils, describing the problems and ways in which chemistry may helps us solve them.
