ABSTRACT

Biological control of plant pathogens can no longer be considered to be of just academic interest. In 1995, there were reported to be at least 30 commercial biocontrol agents for the control of soilborne plant pathogens on the world market [95]. Further, there were at least 14 commercial biocontrol agents of plant pathogens available in the United States (Table 1). Hence, at least for some diseases, biological control represents a viable alternative approach to chemical pesticides, host resistance, or crop rotations for disease management.
