Insect pests can be further categorized as occasional pests, minor pests, and major pests. The numbers of insect species thus involved in attacking major crops in North America are shown in Table 2, which provides estimates of major and minor pests of agricultural crops. These numbers aggregate to about 260 major pests and as many as 750 minor pests [20].
