Working posture is determined by the characteristics of the worker, the workstation, and the operation (Table 3.1). Concerning the sense systems as determinants of working posture, the main attention in this chapter will be on the eyes and vision. Regarding the capabilities of motor systems one may, for example, think of joint ranges of motion, strength, and endurance. It is recognized that many other determinants may be involved in posture selection in general, e.g., the level of skill of the worker and psychosocial factors such as stress, boredom, tradition, and culture.
