ABSTRACT
A smart home is one that includes computerized technology to enhance the inhabitants’ lifestyle in as many ways as possible. Such environments are wired to perform a number of tasks automatically or conveniently upon command. It is difficult to pinpoint a year that could be called the inception point of such technology, since evolution has been slow and ongoing, but the nomenclature has been used since the early 1990s. New home construction will likely incorporate smart features incrementally, until such features are the norm rather than novelty.
