ABSTRACT
MP3s are a recent version of the MPEG compression format, or Codec (see COMPRESSION). MPEG is a standard for compressing and coding audio/visual information for digital storage that was developed by the Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG). MPEG is a part of the International Standards Organization (ISO) and was established in 1988 to create efficient standards for audio/visual representation.
