ABSTRACT

People in today’s world are on the go. The days of growing up in one place and never straying far from that point of origin, or embarking on one career path and never straying, are in the past for most individuals. It is common in the United States to move a number of times and change jobs several times in the course of one’s life. As people move about, they like to take with them the technological equipment that enhances their lives and increases productivity. Donald Norman (1998) refers to such appurtenances as “information appliances.” They include devices for communication, imaging, information gathering, writing, printing, and many other functions. One common attribute that they share is an increasing priority on portability.
