ABSTRACT

Guidelines constitute a popular means of providing input for human factors design in the development of interactive computer-based products and services. In the mainstream human computer interaction (HCI) field, they have been in use for a number of years and have contributed substantially to the development of a human factors culture within commercial organisations and institutions. In the field of assistive technology, guidelines provide a consolidated body of knowledge reflecting the design of suitable computer access systems. Today, much of the accessibility work is based on general or contextspecific guidelines developed from experience, practice and, sometimes, experimentation.
