ABSTRACT
High diversity of natural resources in South America is unique on the earth. There are mountains, steppes, dry areas, and more. South America has a surface of 18 million km2 extending from latitude 12º N to 56º S. The region is 7,500 km in length and 5,000 km in width at its widest point. Altitude ranges from sea level to 7,000 masl.
