ABSTRACT

Human factors has matured into a core technology. This contention is best reflected in the attention the aviation industry has dedicated to this technology over the last decade. In fact, the aviation industry has experienced what has been dubbed the golden era of aviation human factors, both in research as well as in application, essentially through human factors training for operational personnel and the integration of human factors knowledge into accident prevention and investigation. Although skeptics and critics still exist in all segments of the international community who would state otherwise, the contribution of human factors knowledge to aviation system safety and effectiveness remains beyond question.
