Otosclerosis is a disease affecting the otic capsule, resulting in foci of increased bone turnover. Disorganized bone remodelling causes a predominately conductive hearing loss by reducing movement of the stapes footplate in the oval window. It can also have a direct effect on the cochlea, resulting in a sensorineural hearing loss.
