ABSTRACT
Harvard biochemist Lawrence Henderson, from the perspective of the edgling eld of physical chemistry, provided in The Fitness of the Environment an updated extension of the design arguments about the ne-tuning of the physical environment, especially water, presented in the Bridgewater Treatises of Whewell and Prout (Whewell, 1833; Prout, 1834; Henderson, 1913).
