ABSTRACT
There are many processes for the manufacture of glass-based products that can be de„ned as molding. Glass slumping, where glass is simply heated and allowed to form or slump over a mold, is the process used to manufacture craft-type products such as bowls and platters. Glass režectors for use in lighting applications are manufactured by heating and pressing a glass gob with both male and female molds. Glass containers or bottles are manufactured by blow molding a preform of glass. Yet, none of these processes are de„ned as precision glass molding. These molding processes are not precision processes and generate products that do not shape or transmit light in a precise manner.
