ABSTRACT

Over the years production of infrared sensors and laser systems has increased dramatically and made infrared technology ubiquitous in a host of military, industrial, commercial, and medical applications. As new markets are discovered, demand continues to grow for affordable, high-quality optical systems operating in the infrared. Over the past decade molding technology has been used to successfully produce high-quality infrared lenses with surface complexities ranging from simple conics to complex aspheric diffractives. The topic of molded optics for infrared applications is becoming increasingly relevant as the affordability and availability of infrared detectors and light sources increase with every passing year.
