ABSTRACT

Many investigators have used this concept to compare the risk between dierent diagnostic radiological procedures. Mettler et al. provide a comparative summary of eective dose for a number of standard diagnostic procedures including radiographic, computed tomography, and radioisotope studies [9]. Table 24.2 provides a comparison between several interventional and CT examinations. Although useful for comparing the relative risk between procedures, it is not recommended that eective dose be used to estimate the risk for individual patients since the weighting factors were developed for a reference population.
