ABSTRACT

In the design–bid–build project delivery method, the owner enters into a contract with a design firm to provide design services. The design (engineering) firm provides design documents including drawings and technical specifications required for the project. On industrial projects such as oil and gas facilities, an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract is an alternate term for the design–build delivery method to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services. Construction management (CM) method is another form of project delivery in which the CM firm performs management activities on behalf of the project owner. Strategic alliances have been around a long time, and in the last 20 years, the alliance profession has deeply codified the organizational architecture of best practices that create repeated success. The design professional’s duties include inspecting the work to ensure it complies with the design and issuing directives to correct deficiencies in the work.
