Research on school algebra has been a touchstone of the anthropological theory of the didactic since its first developments in the late 1980s. This chapter presents an investigation focused on the introduction of negative numbers required for algebraic calculations. It expounds a new development of the reference epistemological model on algebraic-functional modelling defined by Ruiz-Munzón (2010).
