ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a general introduction to Pope Francis's encyclical, Laudato Si’ (2015), followed by a discussion of its particular relevance to anthropology, epistemology, neoliberal education policy and curriculum. The countercultural nature of the encyclical demands a classroom response that is predicated on the principles of critical pedagogy, a key focus of this chapter. With a view to helping practitioners, two closely related strategies – See, Judge, Act and the Pastoral Circle – are introduced as valuable approaches to the adoption of critical pedagogies.
