Mining mobile trajectories
Location-aware, wirelessly connected mobile devices trace the path of their human travelling companions as they move through time and geographic space. It is possible that these mobile trajectories can be captured during the provision of location-based services and this data mined to support the same information services during future travel. Exactly how this can be accomplished is an open research question. Nevertheless, it does appear that data mining of mobile trajectories may well lead to better, more scalable, and less expensive location-based services. Privacy and other social issues are potential problems in the development of commercial or government efforts to use mined trajectory data for other purposes. Any successful approach must deal with these.
