ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: We, the Research group on Hydro-environments around alluvial Fans in Japan, aim to study the present aquatic environment in and around the fans and how much they will be affected and changed by future temperature rise. The alluvial fans studied are as follows. Both Toyohira-gawa and Isawa-gawa alluvial fans are located in a rich snowfall area in northern Japan. Kurobe-gawa fan is situated in a heavy snowfall area in the middle part of Japan and faces the Sea of Japan. Inland basin and multi-use type Echi-gawa fan is located in an area having poor snowfall and faces lake Biwa-ko. Shigenobu-gawa fan is situated in the non-snowfall region in Shikoku Island, facing the Dohgo Plain. The Chikugo-gawa fan in the northern non-snowfall Kyushu region has no obvious features of an alluvial fan. For these six alluvial fans in Japan, this paper is mainly focusing on their topography, hydro-geology, water budget of each main rivers and interactions between surface water and groundwater and their future prospects.
