ABSTRACT

To reinforce constructional girders, composite materials – polymers (ABS) are used reinforced with unilaterally placed carbon fibers (CFRP), glass fibers (GFRP) or Kevlar fibers (KFRP). These materials are manufactured as thin bands up to 1.4 mm thick, up to 120 mm wide and up to 250 to 500 m long. As compared with traditional materials used in civil engineering, e.g. steel, they demonstrate a high tensile strength up to 3500 MPa and a high modulus of elasticity up to 300 GPa (Ashby 1998, Gołas´ 2007a,b, Jemielita 2001).
