INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the key initiation and ending phases for the validation of GxP-critical computerized systems, namely the use of formal validation plans and the associated close out documentation related to validation reporting. It will also cover how to go about managing and creating such documents. At the same time it attempts to clarify the roles and responsibilities in both validation planning and reporting, and draws attention to the benefits that good planning and reporting activities bring to the implementation of a successful project. Finally, the chapter provides checklists to aid the user in developing validation plans and reports that are suitable for any specific application to which they may be applied.
