A clear distinction between tendons and nerves was made at the end of the nineteenth century. In ancient Greek culture the word ‘neuron’ was attributed both to nerves and to tendons and its heritage might occasionally explain why, even in contemporary times, tendons might be erroneously connected to nerves in the emergency setting.
