ABSTRACT

Light frost devastates the economic value of citrus and cauliflower, yet dwarf willow and tussock grass survive sub-artic and sub-Antartic winters. Evolution has molded them to their different environments. Molecular analysis reveals the underlying factors, information that can be exploited to help crops cope with a changing and uncertain climate, to explain the distribution of wild plants, and to reveal cryopreservation strategies of general value.
