ABSTRACT

Other chapters in this book have discussed the role of carotid endarterectomy and stenting for patients with moderate-to-severe internal carotid artery stenosis due to atherosclerosis. Due to the frequency of carotid stenosis, large clinical trials have been performed to evaluate this condition, such as the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET), European Carotid Surgery Trial (ECST), and the Asymptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis Study (ACAS).
