ABSTRACT

The Hungarian Republic, is situated in central Europe in the Carpathian Basin. Its neighbours are Slovakia to the north, Ukraine to the north-east and Rumania to the east. Serbia and Croatia are south of Hungary, Slovenia is to the south-west and Austria to the west. Hungary dramatically was reduced in area after World War I from an area that covered almost the entire Carpathian Basin (325 411 km2) to the present area of 93 030 km2. This history refers to the larger pre-Great War area.
