ABSTRACT

The information for this chapter is taken mainly from the Proceedings of the National Symposium “One Century of Hydrogeology in Romania’’ held in Bucharest, 24-26 May 2000. It is more than 100 years since the first paper on the hydrogeology of Romania was published in 1895. This was a monograph on the structural features and hydrogeological potential of the Sub-Carpathians Hills and Romanian Plain by Mateiu Draghiceanu, a mining engineer and geologist who studied at the Paris School of Mines and is considered the father of modern hydrogeology in Romania (Bretotean 2000).
