ABSTRACT
Direct application of pesticides to crops in the late production (pre-harvest) stage can result in residue levels that may pose a risk to consumers. In Colombia several cases of food contamination have been reported. These incidents may have been caused by inadequate preparation, improper storage, or improper transport, e.g. seeds being treated with organic mercury compounds and hexachlorobenzene during storage as treatments against rodents, insects, etc.
