ABSTRACT

The autonomic nervous system and insulin appear to be related by different ways. Indeed, insulin secretion is under the influence of both sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Conversely, there are numerous reports, although often contradictory, describing the influence of insulin on the activity of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). The aim of this chapter will be to have a quick survey of these two aspects and finally to ascertain, in what way, changes in the activity of the autonomic nervous system, and more specifically, the sympathetic one can be involved in the development of human insulin resistance syndrome.
