ABSTRACT
This chapter summarizes the concepts of parasitism and parasitology. It describes the main characteristics of the different groups of parasites, the protozoa, the helminths, and the arthropods. Their organization into different kingdoms, sub-kingdoms, and phyla, as well as their developmental relationships are discussed.
