For many years, several methods have been used to measure rock mass displacement during a blast and to make adjustments to the ore blocks to account for this movement.

Methods used to measure blast movement have ranged from passive visual indicators such as surface markers, PVC pipes and sand bags to more sophisticated remote transmitters such as radioactive, magnetic and electronic targets.
