ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to give a short overview on the current status and the potential future role of OCT in the diagnosis and treatment of PAD. The unique ability of OCT to accurately characterize atherosclerotic plaques suggests that this new technique may hold promise for a better understanding of the progression or regression of atherosclerosis in peripheral arteries. Additional information on plaque composition and in vivo monitoring of reaction to different therapeutic approaches might lead to more sophisticated and tailored treatment strategies for peripheral arteries in the future.
