ABSTRACT

The backward-facing step flow is a classic research topic of separation flow. And it is also a common flow pattern in engineering practice, such as flow over the spillway, the wind blowing around buildings and the flow through sudden expansions in pipe. In those situations, the separation occurs at the corner of the step when flow is through the step, and recalculating eddies forms downstream of step, then the main flow around eddies reattach the wall. The backward-facing step flow contains rich flow phenomenon, needs to be further studied.
