ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: The optimized operation model of the reservoirs in sediment-laden rivers has been set up in the paper. Based on the hydrological data, a statistical analysis is made to the frequencies of floods at different levels in three stages of flood season: the early period; the major period; the late period. Accordingly, the volumes of incoming water-flow and sediment in different stages are predicted, and a real-time the operation parameters of reservoirs are got. Finally, this method is applied to control the operation of Tingkou Reservoir in Shaanxi Province. It turns out that the reservoir operation scheme determined through the model in this paper can bring about a greater remaining reservoir capacity and more water supply than the conventional operation scheme.
