ABSTRACT: With the development of the water conservancy and hydropower construction in China, more and more dams have been built. Most dam positions which have favorable geological conditions for the dam have been used to build the dam. The majority positions of the dams which are under construction or will be built have complicated geological conditions such as karst, thick alluvium, faults, fissures, strong permeability and other geological defects. To build the dam in poor geological environment, the dam foundations need to be reinforced and improved for conforming to the requirements of the dam project. Because the cement grouting technology has many advantages, for example, wide applicability, good quality, simple construction technics and low cost, it obtains the widespread application in more and more dam foundation treatment project, and with the promotion of engineering practice, the grouting technology has very big enhancement and development too. Based on grouting theory and the specialty of grouting construction in this paper, various grouting methods which are used in the dam foundation grouting project in china are described, the applicability, advantages and disadvantages of grouting methods are discussed and compared with each other. In the dam foundation grouting construction, the field grouting experiment is important to determine grouting pressure, grouting injection rate, grouting hole layout and other construction parameters. This paper describes the field cement grouting case, the method and the technical process of grouting test are illustrated, and the grouting effect in accordance with quality assessment standard of design grouting was examined. Finally, some suggestions of improving grouting quality can be used for the reference in the similar projects.
