ABSTRACT

Increased attention has been paid to evaluate the response of ship structures subjected to rapidly varying loads, such as slamming, sloshing, green water and underwater explosion, which produce structural large inelastic deformations. The induced imperfections severely reduce the residual ultimate strength of ship structures under axial compressive loads (Paik et al. 2003; Xu and Guedes Soares 2013). Thus, the maximum deflection induced by the impulsive loadings should be controlled in order to avoid the collapse of ship structures.
