ABSTRACT

Zhu and Chao (2002) carried out the detailed 3D nonlinear thermal and thermo-mechanical analysis to investigate the effect of each temperature dependent material property on the transient temperature, residual stress and distortion in computational simulation of welding process. The numerical results show that the thermal conductivity has certain effect on the transient temperature fields during welding and the yield stress has significant effect on the residual stress and distortion after welding. Teng et al. (2003) performed FE analysis of the residual stresses in single-pass, multi-pass butt welds and circular patch welds. The effects of welding sequences on the residual stresses were discussed in detail.
