ABSTRACT

Average stress triaxiality is first used by Bao and Wierbicki (2003) who performed various fracture tests including tension, compression, shear, and tension-shear for an aluminum alloy. A new yield function, called modified Mohr-Coulomb (MMC) yield function with failure strain surface as function of stress triaxiality and lode angle, was developed by Bai and Wierzbicki (2008). 1 INTRODUCTION

Most marine structural steels should ensure a certain level of ductility at operation temperature level. It is known that stress fields in marine structures govern the fracture of the marine ductile materials. von Mises yield function is known to best capture real yield behaviors of the ductile materials, hence fracture of the ductile materials has been predicted by von Mises equivalent plastic strain.
