ABSTRACT
Second, the low-density of composites makes it possible to apply thicker blades to increase cavitation inception speeds. With a composite sandwich design the thickness of the blades can be increased without significant negative affects to either the total mass, nor the total costs. Theoretical models predict a cavitation inception speed of 30% higher in certain cases for the composite propeller design, compared with the original bronze propeller (Selvaraju & Ilaiyavel, 2011).
