ABSTRACT
Henan Province covers an area of 166,000 sq. km. governing 18 provincial cities with abundant coal resources. The coal bearing area with vertical depth of under 2000 m in the entire province is approx. 18,900 sq. km. in which the area of proved coal reserves is about 3,800 sq. km. By estimate, coal reserves of shallow occurrence with vertical depth under 1500 are 60.069 billion tons in which available reserves are 23.734 billion tons and predictive reserves are 36.335 billion tons (reliable reserves 21.872 billion tons). There are a total of 19 coal mines in Henan Province which are mainly distributed to the west of Beijing-Guangzhou railway, covering 10 provincial cities including Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Sanmenxia, Hebi, Xinxiang, Jiaozuo, Pingdingshan, Shangqiu, Xuchang and Jiyuan.
