ABSTRACT

The experimental plant was maize (Zea mays L. cvs. Norma). The seeds were soaked in 10 mM CaSO4 for 4 hours after sterilization and then germinated on moistened filter paper at 22oC. The seedlings were transferred to continuously aerated nutrient solution of the following composition: 2.0 mM Ca(NO3)2, 0.7 mM K2SO4, 0.5 mM MgSO4, 0.1 mM KH2PO4, 0.1 mM KCl, 1 μM H3BO3, 1 μM MnSO4, 10 μM ZnSO4, 0.25 μM CuSO4, 0.01 μM (NH4)6Mo7O24. Iron was added to the nutrient solution as Fe(III)-EDTA at a concentration of 100 μM. The native materials were used in the quantity of 2 g dm−3 in the nutrient solution and 5 g dm−3 in soil experiment.
