ABSTRACT

The origin of lean principle is introduced by Toyota production system (Dunstan et al., 2006; Womack & Jones, 1996; Andi et al., 2009). The differences and resemblances of automotive industry and mining industry have been illustrated that lean production concept is applicable to mining operations. Lean principle wastes have been identified (Klippel et al., 2006) by applying lean management to a fluorite mine in Brazil. Lean concept has been applied to operations like standby driller’s team, sharpening bits, increasing quantity and quality of tools and conducting necessary training reduced useless operations significantly. As a Consequence of the elimination of the wastes, productivity was increased and mining costs were decreased impressively (Andi et al., 2009; Klipper et al., 2009).
