ABSTRACT

China is rich in mineral resources, and the exploitation of mineral resources severely damages the land resources. Due to incomplete land reclamation regulation system and insufficiency of regulatory work, reclamation is not timely implemented for lots of damaged land. According to statistics, up to 2009, the area of the land that is damaged due to the production and construction activities as well as natural disasters is about 135,070,000 mu, with about 33,820,000 mu reclaimed and 101,250,000 mu unreclaimed. 53,150,000 mu of the unreclaimed land is damaged due to the exploitation of mineral resources. It is estimated that up to 2020 the area of land damaged due to the exploitation of mineral resources will reach 81,304,500 mu (Yan, 2011, Zhou et al. 2013).
